Philosophy

The central feature of the ‘human condition’
is our desire to understand and give meaning to the Universe
in which we find ourselves.
Just as in our individual behaviours we bring and synthesise
many differing perspectives, knowledges and experiences to
give meaning to issues or events, so does Teleconomy. At Teleconomy
we employ a multi-disciplinary approach to our research, interpretations
and consultancy. This approach combines insights and theory
from academic fields including sociology, anthropology, psychology,
management science, business research, literary theory and
philosophy with empirical data collection/studies and practical
understandings of the issues and challenges facing organisations.
In this manner and by ‘illuminating’ an issue
from these several perspectives we, as researchers, bring
a more balanced and in-context view to our findings and interpretations.
This in turn provides our clients with more comprehensive
understandings. However our mission goes beyond simply interpreting
or translating, rather it is to provide a challenging and
stimulating set of views, conclusions and recommendations
that, by thoughtful use by the client lead to measurable actions
and outcomes.
Our central interest is in researching, understanding and
commenting on organisational and consumer behaviours. Such
work may be explored in many contexts and across many business
sectors. For example it may take the form of direct physical
observation as in understanding shopping experiences or it
may examine how behaviours are mediated and adapted by communication
modes or media usage such as the Internet or iTV. Central
to our approach is the understanding of evolving behaviours
and some degree of future oriented forecasting. Again this
is always translated into practical client owned actions.
Whilst our work is primarily strategic, at the heart of most
strategy lies tactical incidents or actions. Therefore it
is the role of Teleconomy to explore even localised, tactical
incidences to provide detailed understanding of the singular
issue or event, and ensure these understandings are of actionable
value to the client. Furthermore our findings place such tactical
incidents within their wider social and strategic context,
so providing the broader framework essential for successful
actions and strategy development.
At the heart of all our work lies a deep respect for methodological
rigour and theory. The rigorous application of methodology
is not ‘worn on our sleeves’; rather it is implicit
in everything we do. Our work bears the ‘hallmark’
of crafted and rigorously sound method whilst always being
presented in an intelligible, useful manner to our clients.
Above all our research findings present a forceful and compelling
argument. Yet that argument is delivered, offered even, with
the humility of a fellow human being seeking to make sense
of the world.
